The Guild is Coming Back!
Hi, Folks!
We have big news!
Rick Bouchard and I are in the process of putting together a questionnaire for guild members to help us reinvigorate the Guild. We would like to start offering a regular study group as well as a Celtic/Uncial class this summer. Eventually, we would love to invite some nationally-known teachers to our area.
If you know anyone who is interested in learning calligraphy, please have them ask to join this group or email me at calligraphydesign@hotmail.com.
We are very excited to start planning for the coming year, and welcome all suggestions and input from you! Calligraphy and lettering are experiencing a surge in popularity and many new people are interested in learning our craft.
If you unsure whether we have your current email address, or if you don't receive the survey by the end of the week, please contact me at calligraphydesign@hotmail.com.
If you are on Facebook, be sure to follow the Casco Bay Scribes page for updates and articles of interest.

Guild Meeting and Plans for the Future
Hello, everyone!
We had a small but productive meeting on June 25, at Rick Bouchard's wonderful little house and studio in the woods. At the meeting we discussed plans for the future and caught up on what some of our Guild members are doing.
We currently have about 30 active email contacts on our mailing list, so one of our jobs is to touch base with names on the list who no longer have valid emails. We decided that we would no longer charge annual membership dues, since most of our membership receives their updates via email, and postage and printing costs are negligible. Hopefully, this will allow members to participate in the guild more easily. We will still charge a small amount for play dates (to cover materials or teacher fees). Workshops will be a bigger expense, but all felt that it is important to bring high caliber teachers to the area on a regular basis.
Our next meeting will be on Saturday, October 15, 2011. We will have a business meeting at 10:00 a.m. followed by a brown-bag lunch and then a Zentangle workshop at 1:00. This playdate is open to all levels. We will put a calligraphic "twist" on Zentangles for those students who are more familiar with the process. For more information about Zentangles, go to: www.zentangle.com .
More detailed minutes and play date information will be coming to members shortly through email. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at mcneicester@gmail.com.

Guild Update and Conference Report
Most of the action and information about the guild is taking place on Facebook these days, just log in and join Casco Bay Scribes. If you are not a facebook fan, please email me and I will be sure to put you on our mailing list for future updates. The guild is getting back up to speed, with several playdates and workshops in the works. The first will be this October, when we will share photographs and information from the recent Odyssey 2010 Calligraphy Conference. Guild members took classes and workshops; attended lectures and concerts; met amazingly talented people and saw loads of exciting calligraphy. We look forward to sharing our "finds" with you!

Welcome to the Casco Bay Scribes Blog!
Dear Fellow Scribes,
In an effort to help us stay in touch, I have started this blog, or on-line group journal.
Every member of the Guild is welcome to join the blog and post notes or questions pertinent to calligraphy, art, and other items of interest to the guild. Members are encouraged to post images of their own work (completed or in progress), keeping in mind that these images will be available to the internet as a whole. If you post images from another source, please be sure to give credit to the source in your post.
If you have a blog or website that you would like to add to our list, please email it directly to me so I can post it.
If you have difficulty logging in as a member, (you may need a google/gmail account first) please let me know.
I know that every time I get together with a group of artists and calligraphers, my enthusiasm and creativity soar. I hope this blog inspires all of us to continue to create art and take pleasure in our calligraphy.
Maggie
